About Us

Sherri June Evans, Jr. was born to parents Sherri and Joseph Evans in Norfolk, Virginia. She spent most of her childhood in Oklahoma City and graduated as salutatorian from a small Christian school in 2004. During her senior year, she attended Metro Tech in her free time and earned a certificate in Graphics Design. After graduating from high school, Sherri pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a funeral director and enrolled in the University of Central Oklahoma. While studying, she also worked as an apprentice at a local funeral home. In 2009, Sherri graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Funeral Services, with a minor in Creative Writing.

In 2010, Sherri fulfilled her wish of moving to Texas and worked in Dallas for a period at an embalming service. Eventually, in 2012, she moved to Waco to work as a Funeral Director and Embalmer at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors, where she received several honors, including the Circle of Excellence award, which only 25 people out of a corporate company of 8000+ received. She also became a Certified Celebrant, Preneed Insurance Agent, and Funeral Home Manager. After nearly six years there, Sherri received a new opportunity in March of 2018 to work at Lake Shore Funeral Home. While there, she served as one of the certified crematory operators.

In October of 2021, Sherri decided to branch out on her own and start Black Orchid Transport and Mortuary Services, under the Limited Liability Company Black Orchid Legacy, which was established in 2018. For almost 18 years, Sherri has utilized her skills and compassion as a funeral director, embalmer, certified celebrant, preneed writing agent, and restorative artist.

Outside of work, Sherri enjoys spending time with her loved ones, including her beloved pets, Garvin, Runtly, Woo Woo, and "the chickens." She also enjoys playing video games, watching movies and TV shows such as Forged and Fire, playing on adult basketball and flag football leagues, and watching different subscriptions on YouTube. In addition, Sherri likes to build and refinish furniture and paint. She also picked up the hobby of polymer clay in 2016 and sometimes sells her creations under the name "claytimejester" on Etsy and Facebook. Most of her clientele are funeral directors and embalmers, as the creations are miniature funeral-related items.

Sherri feels grateful to be living her dream of serving the Central Texas area community as a funeral director and embalmer. Her goal is to provide peace of mind to the firms who trust her with the care of their families and to fill in the gap when needed.
